This Month in History... February
.jpg)
Photo taken of the square after the ice storm of February 17, 1909. A reminder that winter is not over! The tall flagpole was the last of four successive poles on that site. An earlier one was a mast of the Milan-built schooner, Idaho

The Edna Roe Newton Memorial Building houses the rare collection acquired during the extensive travels of The Newtons. Journey through Italy, France, Spain, England, Ireland, Belgium and Asia.
The Newtons had an appreciation for works of art, textiles, carvings, porcelains and furnishings.
Family heirlooms interweave with the Newtons acquired collections in a setting that is both elegant and grand.
A large collection of Japanese Netsuke are highlighted, as well as the many Northern European oil painings. Mrs. Newton enjoyed the exacting arts of needlepoint and pettipoint design and her work takes center stage in the upper gallery.
The Edna Roe Newton Memorial Building opened to the public in 1971. A memorial plaque at the head of the grand staircase tells the story simply:
Dedicated to my wife,
Edna Roe Newton,
in loving memory of over fifty years
of her unfailing love, devotion and understanding
Bert P. Newton
